  » Frequently Asked Questions:

Kazaa Lite won't connect. What's wrong?
Check the following things:

  • Are you running a firewall? Try disabling it.
  • Windows XP also has a built-in firewall. Try disabling it.
  • Are you on a school/university/work network? Then the port used by Kazaa Lite may be blocked. Try setting a different port in Options.
  • In the Kazaa Lite Resurrection Tools menu, click to launch KaZuperNodes. Once it's loaded click on the red and white hospital looking cross in the bottom right corner.

I get an error that a file was not found when starting KLR.
If the missing file is "MSVBM60.DLL" go here to get it.
If the missing file is "MSCOMCTL.OCX" go here to get it.

Kazaa Lite Resurrection users shows one users with so many GB, example: (1-50GB).
The solution is to open up Kazaa Lite Resurrection and at the top you will see these words: File Tools, Player and Options. Click Options go to Kazaa Lite Resurrection Options, a dialog box pops up. Look for K++ advanced Options uncheck "Force being Supernode". Click apply, hit OK then wait a few seconds and all should be well.

My downloads are too slow. Alternatively, I cannot connect to fast enough users.
This can be a number of things. The download speed depends on the user(s) you are downloading from: your downloads cannot be faster than their upload bandwidth allows. If you are on dial up, aka 56k (phone connection) your connection will limit this (the reason why you have so much download speed and so much upload speed). Unless you get broadband (cable, DSL satellite) you are stuck this way. Alternatively, you may be running some type of firewall on your computer that prevents you from a good download speed.
However, there is a way to get as many sources as you can. Open up Kazaa Lite Resurrection. Click Options. Kazaa Lite Resurrection Options, K++ Advanced Options. You will see Max. Sources per file... The default is 16. Type in 999, hit apply, and OK. You do need to restart Resurrection for this, if 999 people are On. Will look for 999 copies of the file you are trying to download. You can get the idea.

My WebPages are slow after installing Kazaa Lite resurrection.
You have a certain amount of bandwidth for your connection. 56k and ISDN (128k) users have the lowest bandwidth. If you have this you cannot upload as much. If you are on broadband, in addition, experience, slow loading webpages. Go to Options, Kazaa Lite Resurrection Options. Go to Advanced tab you will see 2 boxes the 1 that says maximum bandwidth in kilobits, the box across that says 256. Change this to 32. Which is 4 kilobytes for every person. As the number of people grow, 4 kilobytes will be divided among the downloading users. If you are on dial up change this to 24 kilobits.

Can I customize my Start Page?
Yes, you can go to Options. Kazaa Lite Resurrection Options,  K++ Options, the start page is across a box that has a webpage address in it. You can change this to any webpage. Examples: www.filesharingplace.com, www.google.com, etc.

Does Kazaa use Internet Explorer?
Kazaa Lite Resurrection as default uses Internet Explorer, even if you use Mozilla/FireFox, Opera, as your default browser.

Something is wrong with the song I downloaded.
Most people in the FastTrack file sharing community know by now about the corrupted songs that have spread around. It seems that most of the new/popular songs have been corrupted and seeded by the RIAA or other organizations working towards the same cause. There are many different types of corrupted songs. One example of a corrupted song is that the first 20 seconds or so of a song will sound fine, and then get garbled into a screechy sound. The only solution to this is to download a new copy from another user and delete the one you have, do NOT keep sharing it. If you were able to determine the IP of the user you downloaded the file from, please send it to us.

Can I make a play list of my favorite songs and video's?
Yes you can! Click MY KLR, if you have an old version that says My Kazaa Lite Resurrection, click that. On the left side you will see New Play List. Click on the file that you wish to add. Click Actions and add to the play list.

My downloads are always "Remotely Queued" and "More Sources Needed" can i fix this?

There are lots of reasons for this:

  • The users sharing the file you want went offline while you were downloading. Kazaa Lite uses intelligent downloads to periodically try and continue downloading your file, so in this case you can just leave Kazaa Lite running until it finds it again.
  • The user(s) have stopped sharing the file you want; you will never be able to finish your download. The user doesn't necessarily have bad intentions when he stops sharing a file. The file might be corrupt, incomplete or the file might have accidentally been deleted.
  • Kazaa Lite Resurrection blocks downloads from users that share fake/corrupt files. You may have been trying to download a file from one of these users. (Note: KLR does not have the ability to block all these users.)

I do not want to be sued, can I take a precaution to this other then not to share?
Other than to stop sharing, Kazaa Lite Resurrection has an IP blocker, go to Tools then Bad IP Blocker. Check it daily because new bad IPs are always added. The IPs are the bad guys.

I had Kazaa Media Desktop (KMD) but I got Kazaa Lite Resurrection now. I heard I have spyware, do I?
Yes. You do have forms of spyware that besides being called 'spyware', are also called 'adware' and 'malware'. If you had or have any version of Kazaa Media Desktop from www.kazaa.com. You will have spyware as of BDE, altnet, P2P networking, and the list can go on. You can get a spyware removal tool from here: Spybot - Search & Destroy. There is also Ad-aware. Both these spyware removers can clean your system. To keep your system clean (protect it) I recommend this: Spyware Blaster. I have used it and have not found spyware ever again on my PC. Remember to keep these programs updated, because new spyware is developed every day. It is your job to keep and protect your system.

Why do so many uploads from my machine end up aborted?
Don't worry; this is due to uploads being taken from multiple sources. The user uploading from you probably finished the download using an alternative source. Or maybe that user just went offline.

What are those red crosses on some of my search results?
That means that those files are shared by a user who is behind a firewall and that they probably can't be downloaded from that user.
It is better to filter out these results. That can be done in Kazaa Lite options, on the filter tab.

Why am I downloading from fewer sources as than I found in the search?

There are lots of reasons for this:

  • There is a maximum for the number of sources that is used simultaniously. This is 8 in the old Kazaa Lite versions. With the K++/Resurrection Editions you can chance that value. The default value is 16.
  • Sources may have gone offline in the meanwhile.
  • Speed: If you download from only a few people, but the speeds are good, then Kazaa Lite won't try to add any additional sources. Only when the total speed is low, it tries to add some more sources to download from.
  • When you start a download, a maximum of 30 sources is stored in the partial download. So having hundreds of sources in the searchresults is pretty pointless. Once the download is started additional sources can be added, up to 150 in total.
  • But the most important reason why you usually only download from one or two sources at a time is that the sources don't have a free upload slot available for you to use. A simple example:
Let's say that there are 100 people. On average they each have 5 upload slots. That means a maximum of 500 total uploads from these people. Now if each of these 100 people has 3 active downloads, then there would be 300 downloads. But with only 500 available upload slots you will see that the chances of downloading a file from multiple sources are pretty small. That is why most files only download from one or two sources at a time. Only with very popular files you are likely to be able to download from many people at once

My school blocks the use of Kazaa, what now?
IN KLR go to options, KLR options, firewall, and click on use socky5 proxy put localhost for the host and 1080 for the port. Then write down the port number at the bottom of the screen. Then open HTTP Tunnel and go to add settings, add port/locations and put the port number you got from KLR in the port and 1080 for local host and put you IP in the box (whatismyip.com) and then close both. open http tunnel, then open KLR and it should work. If my directions are wrong, check here for http-tunnel directions http://www.http-tunnel.com/html/support/user_guides.asp.

The bandwidth column in Kazaa is inaccurate, how do I fix it?
In kazaa your bandwidth is determined by your internet connection, I will give examples of what your bandwidth should look like if you are using different types of internet connection:
Dail up: 30 - 70
ISDN: 90 - 150
DSL: 200 - 1500
Cable or T1: 1500+
T2 and above: 2500+
I must add that the bandwidth in kazaa is not always accurate, I have been on dial up, conected at 49.2 kbps and only got a bandwidth rating of 29 max.

I locked myself out of KLR on accident, how do I get back in?
You may have just added a blank password to KLR. Just try clicking enter.
